Why does my LG dryer take too long to dry?
An LG dryer that takes too long is almost always experiencing restricted airflow (the most common cause, often preceded by d80/d90 flow-sense codes), a partially failed or drifting thermistor producing less-than-required heat, or moisture sensor bars coated with fabric softener residue that cause sensor-dry cycles to end prematurely.

Restricted airflow / partial vent clog
A partially clogged vent allows some airflow but not enough for efficient drying. LG's flow-sense system detects this and displays d80 or d90 codes as the restriction worsens. Continued operation without clearing the vent leads to thermal fuse failure.

Drifting thermistor
LG thermistors can drift to read higher temperatures than actual, causing the control board to shut heat off before the target temperature is fully sustained. The dryer gets warm but not hot enough to dry efficiently.

Partial heating element failure
A heating element with a partial resistance wire break produces heat at reduced output — warm air but not the full heat required for normal dry times.

Moisture sensor bar coating
Fabric softener residue on LG's internal moisture sensor bars causes the sensor-dry system to register clothes as dry before they are. The dryer ends the cycle on time display, but clothes remain damp.

A cycling thermostat that trips early reduces the heat-on duty cycle, resulting in lower average drum temperature and longer dry times.
How LG slow-drying is diagnosed
Diagnosis begins with airflow measurement at the exhaust — if a flow-sense code is present or airflow is reduced, the vent is inspected and cleared first. Thermistor resistance is measured and compared against LG's temperature-resistance specification table. The heating element is checked for full continuity and correct resistance. Moisture sensor bars are inspected for coating.
Slow drying and vent fire risk
Progressive vent restriction — the most common cause of slow drying on LG dryers — builds lint accumulation in the vent run. Heavily restricted vents create conditions for dryer-related fires. LG's flow-sense system is the early warning — codes should be addressed promptly.
