What causes LG flow-sense codes?
LG flow-sense codes indicate restricted airflow: d80 means approximately 80% of expected airflow is blocked, d90 means 90%, d95 means the vent is nearly fully blocked. The root cause is almost always a clogged vent run, a kinked or crushed exhaust hose behind the dryer, or a blocked exterior vent termination. If the codes are ignored, the thermal fuse will blow and the dryer will stop heating entirely.

Clogged vent run
Lint accumulates in the vent pipe over time. The longer the vent run, the faster restriction builds. LG recommends annual vent cleaning for runs over 4 feet. Many homeowners go several years without any vent maintenance, allowing significant accumulation.

Kinked or crushed exhaust hose
The flexible transition hose connecting the dryer to the wall duct can be kinked if the dryer is pushed too close to the wall, or crushed if heavy items are stored on top of it. Even a partial kink substantially reduces airflow.

Blocked exterior vent termination
The exterior vent cap can become blocked by lint accumulation, bird nesting, leaves, or debris. If the cap flap doesn't open freely when the dryer runs, it is partially or fully obstructing exhaust flow.

Improper vent installation
Vent runs that exceed LG's maximum length specification (which accounts for each 90-degree elbow as equivalent to additional linear feet), use incorrect duct diameter, or use flexible plastic duct (which is prohibited by most appliance manufacturers) will register flow-sense codes even when clean.

Flow-sense sensor fault (less common)
Occasionally the flow-sense sensor itself fails or drifts, producing codes even when the vent path is clear. This is much less common than actual vent restriction.
How LG flow-sense codes are diagnosed and resolved
Diagnosis begins with measuring actual airflow at the dryer exhaust connection using a flow meter, then tracing the vent path from the dryer to the exterior to identify the restriction point. The vent is cleared and airflow is measured again to confirm it meets LG's minimum specification. If the d-code persists after clearing, the flow-sense sensor is tested. The full vent path is documented and any installation issues that would produce chronic restriction are identified.
LG flow-sense codes and fire safety
A severely restricted dryer vent — the condition that produces d90 and d95 codes — is also a dryer fire hazard. Lint accumulation in a clogged vent run can reach temperatures sufficient to ignite if the dryer continues to run in a restricted condition. Flow-sense codes should be addressed promptly, not silenced by resetting the dryer.
