Why is my LG dryer not heating?
An LG dryer that tumbles normally but produces no heat most often has a blown thermal fuse (from vent restriction), a failed heating element, or a drifting thermistor that causes the control board to cut heat prematurely. On LG gas dryers, the igniter or gas valve coils are the common cause. LG's flow-sense system may display d80/d90/d95 codes before the fuse blows — these codes are the early warning of the same underlying vent restriction.

Blown thermal fuse
LG thermal fuses are rated single-trip — when they open they must be replaced. The cause is almost always restricted airflow from a partially or fully clogged vent run. The fuse is typically located on the heating element housing or the exhaust duct.

Failed heating element (electric models)
LG's DLEX and DLE series use a 240V resistance heating element. Elements wear out over time, particularly when the dryer has run with restricted airflow. A typical LG element lasts 8–12 years under normal conditions.

Failed thermistor
LG uses a negative-temperature-coefficient (NTC) thermistor to regulate heat. A drifting thermistor reads a drum temperature that is too high and causes the control board to cut heat before the target temperature is reached. This produces symptoms ranging from subtle (clothes take longer) to complete (no heat at all).

Flow-sense codes d80/d90/d95
LG's flow-sense system monitors airflow through the dryer. When airflow drops below expected levels, d80 (80% restricted), d90, or d95 codes appear. These codes are the immediate precursor to thermal fuse failure — a vent that registers d80 will eventually overheat and blow the fuse if the restriction is not addressed.

Worn igniter or gas valve coils (gas models)
On LG DLG gas dryers, a worn igniter or failed gas valve holding coils produce no ignition. A partially worn igniter may produce brief heat then lose the valve, cycling the gas off.
How an LG no-heat dryer is diagnosed
Diagnosis tests heating element continuity, checks thermal fuse and thermostats, measures thermistor resistance against LG's specification table, reads any stored error codes from the control board, verifies airflow at the exterior vent termination using a flow measurement, and on gas models confirms the complete ignition sequence. The vent path is always evaluated — it is the root cause of the majority of LG no-heat calls.
Safety and LG no-heat repairs
A dryer that has repeatedly overheated has also been creating conditions for lint ignition in the vent path. Clearing the vent is a safety step as much as a diagnostic one. 240V electric dryer components are dangerous to probe without proper equipment, and LG's internal component arrangement on front-load models requires specific disassembly. Professional service is appropriate beyond basic vent access.
