What is causing the noise in my LG dryer?
LG dryer noises are mechanical in origin. A high-pitched squeal is almost always a failing idler pulley bearing. A rhythmic thumping at drum rotation speed is worn drum support rollers. A scraping sound is worn drum glides or a deteriorating felt seal. Grinding indicates rear drum bearing wear. All are repairable.

Worn idler pulley
The idler pulley maintains drive belt tension. Its bearing wears to produce a continuous high-pitched squeal that persists throughout the cycle. The bearing eventually seizes, stopping the belt entirely.

Worn drum support rollers
LG front-load dryers use two rear support rollers. As bearing wear develops, each rotation produces a rhythmic thump or rumble. On LG models the sound is often described as similar to a flat tire on pavement.

Worn drum glides or front bearing
LG front-load dryers have plastic glides at the front drum opening that support the drum rim. When these wear through, the metal drum rim contacts the metal front bulkhead, producing a scraping sound.

Drive belt wear
A belt that has glazed, cracked, or frayed can produce intermittent slapping or squeaking sounds before it breaks completely.

Rear drum bearing failure
The rear drum shaft bearing produces a grinding, metallic sound that increases with drum load and worsens progressively.
How LG dryer noise is diagnosed
Diagnosis runs the dryer with the front panel removed to observe and listen to the drum assembly in operation. The idler pulley, rollers, glides, and belt are checked for wear, roughness, and lateral play. The rear bearing is accessed through the rear panel.
Should I keep running a noisy LG dryer?
A dryer with mechanical noise is typically safe to run briefly for essential laundry, but should be repaired promptly. A failing idler pulley that seizes completely will break the drive belt, creating a more involved repair. A scraping drum glide that is ignored will eventually score the drum surface.
