Samsung dryer error codes — what each one means
Samsung dryer error codes are the control board's self-report of a detected fault. HE = heating circuit fault. tE = thermistor reading out of range. dE = door not closed or door switch fault. FE = frequency error (power supply). dF = door fault. Each code narrows the diagnosis to a specific system but does not identify the exact failed component without testing.

HE — Heating Error
The control board detected a fault in the heating circuit. This code points to the heating element, thermostats, thermistor, or wiring in the heat circuit. Component-level testing identifies the specific failure. Do not replace the control board based on HE alone.

tE — Thermistor Error
The thermistor is reading a resistance value outside the expected range. This may indicate the thermistor has failed open (infinite resistance) or short-circuited (zero resistance). Both conditions prevent accurate temperature monitoring and trigger this code.

dE — Door Error
The control board is not receiving a 'door closed' signal. Most commonly caused by a failed door switch or a door catch that is not engaging the switch properly.

FE — Frequency Error
The control board detected a supply frequency outside the expected range. In US homes (60Hz), this typically indicates a wiring fault, a failing power supply component in the dryer, or less commonly an issue with the household electrical circuit.

dF — Door Lock Fault
On models with a door lock mechanism, dF indicates the lock did not engage or disengage correctly. The door latch assembly or lock solenoid may have failed.

bE / bu — Button/Input Error
A button on the control panel is stuck or has failed. This can occur from moisture exposure, physical damage, or component wear on the control panel assembly.
How Samsung error codes are used in diagnosis
Error codes are retrieved from the control board during diagnosis and cross-referenced with the specific model's service documentation. They narrow the diagnostic field significantly but do not replace component-level testing — an HE code can result from four different components, each requiring a different repair. Diagnosis identifies the exact failed part through continuity testing, resistance measurement, and voltage verification.
Should I clear a Samsung error code and keep using the dryer?
Clearing a code and continuing to operate without repair is appropriate only for dE codes caused by an improperly closed door. HE, tE, FE, and bE codes indicate actual component faults that will worsen or create additional failures if the dryer continues to run. An HE code in particular indicates a heating circuit fault that may involve overheating conditions.
Is a Samsung dryer with error codes worth repairing?
Most Samsung error code repairs address a single failed component — thermistor, door switch, heating element, or control board. All are less expensive than replacement. The only scenario where replacement might be considered is a control board failure on a unit older than 10 years with other showing wear.
