Why is my Samsung dryer drum not spinning?
A Samsung dryer that runs but doesn't spin has almost certainly broken its drive belt. The drive belt wraps around the drum, idler pulley, and motor shaft — when it breaks, the motor runs freely but the drum sits still. An idler pulley failure or seized drum roller can also prevent rotation.

Broken drive belt
The drive belt is the most common cause. It is a long, thin belt that wraps around the entire drum circumference. Over time it develops cracks and eventually breaks — the motor runs but the drum does not turn. A characteristic diagnostic sign: the drum spins freely by hand with no resistance when the belt has snapped.

Failed idler pulley
The idler pulley maintains tension on the drive belt. If the idler pulley seizes or the pulley bracket breaks, the belt goes slack and the drum stops turning. A seized idler often produces a loud squealing noise before it fails completely.

Seized drum support rollers
Drum rollers support the drum as it rotates. If one or more rollers seize, they increase rotational resistance until the belt can no longer move the drum. This typically produces a thumping noise that escalates before the drum stops entirely.

Failed drive motor
Less common. If the motor runs but cannot produce enough torque to turn the drum — or if the start capacitor on the motor fails — the drum may not spin even with an intact belt. A failed motor produces a humming sound rather than the normal operational sound.
How a Samsung non-spinning drum is diagnosed
Diagnosis confirms whether the belt is intact by spinning the drum by hand — a broken belt allows completely free rotation with no resistance. If the belt is present, the idler pulley bracket and rollers are tested for smooth rotation. The motor is tested for start and run torque if the belt assembly is intact.
