Why won't my Samsung dryer start?
A Samsung dryer that won't start at all most often has a failed door switch, a blown thermal fuse (which interrupts not just the heating circuit but also the motor circuit on some Samsung models), or a failed control board. A completely dark display points to a power supply issue — the thermal fuse or a control board PSU fault.

Failed door switch
The door switch is the most common cause of a dryer that won't start. It signals the control board that the door is securely closed. When the switch fails, the board receives no 'door closed' signal and prevents operation as a safety interlock.

Blown thermal fuse
On many Samsung models the thermal fuse is wired in series with both the heating circuit and the motor start circuit. A blown thermal fuse not only kills the heat but also prevents the motor from starting entirely.

Failed start switch
The physical start button itself can fail — its internal contacts can wear or break, preventing the start signal from reaching the control board.

Control board fault
Samsung's main PCB control board can fail, preventing the dryer from responding to any commands. Board faults often follow a power surge or moisture exposure. A completely unresponsive display is the clearest indicator.

Power supply issue
Samsung electric dryers require a correctly wired 240V/30A circuit. A tripped breaker, a loose connection at the terminal block, or a failed power cord can prevent the dryer from operating entirely.

Diagnosis confirms power at the outlet and at the terminal block, tests the door switch for continuity when closed, checks the thermal fuse, tests the start switch continuity, and on control board suspects, verifies the input and output voltages at the board. A systematic approach avoids replacing expensive components based on assumption.

Samsung 240V dryer diagnostics involve live voltage testing that requires appropriate equipment and training. The terminal block and power connections are particularly hazardous. Do not probe any internal connections without confirming the dryer is disconnected from power. Control board replacement also involves static-sensitive components.
Is a Samsung dryer worth repairing if it won't start?
